Our Services

At Synergy Chiropractic, Dr. Thompson offers a variety of techniques and modalities to enable optimal body functioning. To help you better understand the style of care provided, we have included descriptions of some of the techniques and services that she provides.

01

Complete Chiropractic Care

Like most chiropractors, at Synergy Chiropractic, Dr. Thompson utilizes what is called a chiropractic adjustment, which involves manipulation of the spine and other joints.

Spine

”Like most chiropractors, at Synergy Chiropractic, Dr. Thompson utilizes what is called a chiropractic "adjustment", which involves manipulation of the spine, other joints, and soft tissue. By doing so, she can reduce pain and restore neuromuscular function. An adjustment involves a simple quick thrust to a bone or tissue, and is either performed by hand or instrument. For more information about chiropractic care and adjustments please see our patient education pages titled: What is Chiropractic and Adjustments.

Extremities

”Commonly, chiropractors will only perform adjustments to the spine and neglect to work on the extremities of the body. At Synergy Chiropractic, we have had extensive training in extremity adjusting and will treat the feet, ankles, knees, hips, hands, wrists, elbows, and shoulders if a patient is in need of it. It is important to manipulate these areas in order to restore normal motion not only to that joint, but throughout the body. Correcting extremity problems can reduce or elimiinate pain elsewhere in the body such as the back or neck. For example, if the foot isn't contacting the ground correctly while walking due to an imbalance in the foot, it can then negatively effect structures above it such as the knee, hip, back and so forth. In some cases pain in these above areas is completely resovled by working on the extremities only.”

TMJ

One area of the body that is very rarely treated by chiropractors, but can be very beneficial to the body is the temporomandibular joint or TMJ. The muscles of the TMJ attach to both the jaw and the bones of the skull, so they can be related to issues in either structure. Things such as headaches, popping/clicking of jaw when opening mouth, grinding teeth, and general pain in jaw, neck, and head can potentially be helped by treating the TMJ. At Synergy Chiropractic, we treat the TMJ by preforming various muscle therapies to the actual muscles of the TMJ along with chiropractic manipulation of the cervical spine. We rarely use adjustment techniques to the TMJ as it is a very sensitive and delicate joint.

Applied Kinesiology

Applied Kinesiology (AK) is a system that was developed by Dr. George Goodheart in 1964 which evaluates structural, biochemical and mental/emotional aspects of an individuals health. AK primarily uilizes manual muscle testing techniques and responses to biofeedback and other neurologic stimulation as a means to uncover imbalance in the body. Improved muscle function and balance that occurs during treatment results in improved joint stability, which allows chiropractic adjustments to be more effective and last longer.

We also use standard methods of diagnosis, such as laboratory testing, physical examination, orthopedic testing and other techniques to evaluate and moniter imbalances found in the body using AK techniques. AK looks to the inherent relationships of certain groups of muscles and specific internal organs or systems to give the doctor an "inside look" at a potential problem. Utilizing the neurological relationship between skeletal muscle and internal organ systems, AK offers a non-invasive means of evaluating body function. This is unique in alternative healthcare. AK allows the doctor to treat your body as an individual instead of using a "one size fits all" type of approach as is found generally in healthcare.

Treatments can involve any combination of the following: specific joint manipulation or mobilization, various myofascial therapies, reflex point procedures, cranial techniques, meridian and acupuncture correlations, clinical nutritional recommendations, dietary guidance/education, lifestyle counselling, and evaluation of environmental irritants.AK is a diagnositc system that incorporates knowledge and treatment protocols involved and developed in many healthcare diciplines including: Chiropractic, Naturopathic, Osteopathy, Acupuncture, Biochemistry, Psychology, Dentistry, and more. AK is practiced by many types of doctors worldwide and is being recognized more and more for its unique and effective treatment of a patient.

03

Total Body Modification

TBM is a technique that focuses on the human body as an integrated unit that interacts and communicates with itself in a myriad of complex pathways. TBM stresses that by doing to the body the right procedures, at the right time, and in the right order, we may observe even greater improvements in function than by doing the same procedures in a random order. Treatment with this modality is commonly done using an Activator instrument or manual stimulation of appropriate reflex points along the spine and elsewhere on the body Stimulation of these points is thought to cause somatoviceral responses within the body, which means activating these points can effect organs, blood vessels, lymphatic tissue, and other body systems.

Nutritional Counseling and Specific Supplement Protocols

At Syngergy Chiropractic, Dr. Thompson believes that to obtain optimal health, we need to correct the underlying problem rather than cover up the symptoms that a patient may be experiencing. Often, the underlying problem can be due to a mineral or vitamin deficiency; therefore, we educate our patients on and recommend proper nutritional supplementation and/or dietary changes rather than suggesting the pursuit of pharmaceutical therapy. This is a much safer and more effective way to treat the body because you are providing the body with what it needs instead of blocking a natural process or poisoning an enzyme system, which causes all sorts of side effects and can be fatal.

Dr. Thompson has taken nutrition courses at National University of Health Sciences as well as over 200 hours of supplemental nutrition education taught by some of the leading doctors in the profession. She also attends seminars on new discoveries in nutrition and new products available for patients from leading supplement companies. Using the previously mentioned techniques from Applied Kinesiology, we can identify a specific organ system(s) that is in need of nutritional support and then provide you with the best type of supplement(s), herb(s), or any other nutrient(s) for your specific requirements or deficiencies. Also, certain nutrients and minerals are specific to enhancing athletic preformance, muscle/joint health, and injury repair.

Striving for proper nutrition along with quality supplements will give you the extra edge in restoring body fuction, as well as speed up recovery and correct internal malfunction that could be the primary cause of your problem.A main concept often overlooked in nutrition is the type of vitamin supplement that you use. There are no quality control companies or any system that checks the active ingredients, bioavailability, and many other important factors relating to vitamins and supplements.

Often when studies are done on basic "store brand" vitamins, many discrepancies are found. Many companies' products have different (often lower than stated) amounts of an actual nutrient. The nutrient can also be tainted with chemicals used during processing. It is also not surprising to find that the form of the vitamin isn't even an active form for the body to absorb and utilize, so ultimately you are just filtering it out and excreting it, which then puts stress on the liver.

At Synergy Chiropractic, we utilize supplement companies that go above and beyond what is expected of them to provide quality products that are effective, available to digest and absorb, and properly dosed. These companies check each batch of raw material used in their supplements for active nutrients. They also check for those same levels after the product is produced to make sure no ingredient was lost in the formulation process. They only use raw material that is devoid of toxic substances and not rancid or spoiled. Please refer to the icons below for more information on these companies, the research done, and the benefits of using whole food supplements. Also, check out the Dietary Guidelines page for tips on healthy eating, which offers natural ways to get important nutrients and assist in weight management.

Do you have heaps of supplements in your cabinets but are unsure which you really need to take, or if they are any good? Do you want to support your body with supplements, but are unsure where to begin? For patients who simply wish to address the biochemical aspect of their health and/or need help in determining what supplements they should take, at what doses, and for how long, Dr. Thompson offers appointments solely focusing on the nutritional side of the health triangle. During the initial appointment, she will take a full history, perform an examination, and test for specific dietary sensitivities such as wheat, dairy, corn, soy, and an array of other foods.

Dr. Thompson will then perform important nutritional supplement testing utilizing the skill of muscle testing. From muscle testing, range of motion testing, reflex point testing, possible lab tests or the tests listed above, Dr. Thompson can assemble a complete supplement protocol which is specific to the patients exact health needs. She can pinpoint the nutritional deficiencies with laser speificity, eliminating the guessing when it comes to what supplements you need. An initial nutritional consultation lasts about an hour, and follow up visits last about 45 minutes. Dr. Thompson will monitor for changes in dietary and nutrittional status at each appointment, and continue to configure the patient supplement protocol as is needed for the patient as they maneuver through the daily stresses of life.
