Happy Friday everyone!
*Brief update on the office status- we remain open to see patients on an urgent needs basis. We are still here for you on a more limited schedule.*
This being said, I thought it was a great time to introduce a brand new service that I have brought to the practice. It's been something I have been wanting to do for a while, but it took COVID-19 to give me the final motivation I needed to set it all up.
I am now offering virtual/remote health status assessments followed by personalized nutritional supplement regimens based on those assessments! This service is also available to my current, in-person patients.
The process goes like this:
1. Patient is electronically sent or given a Standard Process Inc.Systems Health Survey, a questionnaire given to access a snapshot of the patients health at that moment in time, to fill out.
2. Once I receive the Systems Survey, a Telehealth appointment may be scheduled to further discuss the patients current health.
3. I then combine clinical knowledge with the use of a practitioner key to asses the patients overall health and nutritional needs, allowing me to create a customized nutritional, herbal, and/or homeopathic supplement regimen to be taken for a specified amount of time.
4. Due to the recent set up and activation of the Patient Direct online portal on Standard Process' website, patients can have all supplements shipped to them directly. If a non-Standard Process product is prescribed, we will ship those products out separately.
5. A re-assessment is done after the specified amount of time on the regimen.
It's as easy as can be, yet super effective, and a wonderful way to support people when they simply cannot be in the office, perhaps because they cannot come in for the recent circumstances such as COVID-19, live across the country, cannot travel, etc.
I have already done a few of these Systems Surveys and customized nutritional supplement plans with a few patients, and am eager to do more! Not only does it help people who cannot have an in-person appointment, it can help anyone who wants to support themselves with supplements, but is completely unsure of where to start, which ones to get, etc. Anyone know of anyone in this camp? I know I do! The world of supplements has become a complicated place, and now more than ever, guidance is needed.
I would love for you all to help me spread the good word about my new virtual or in-person health service! If you or anyone you know needs help in assessing their current needs in this way, go ahead and send them my way.

I hope everyone is making the most of some of this COVID-19 enforced downtime. I know it has caused me to brainstorm other ways that I can help people and live out my passion, do some self-reflection, and create positive changes in my life. Before we know it, life will be back to being busy again. What changes do we want to bring with us into the future?
Thank you so much! I am missing you all. Dr. Amanda
My favorite shot from this past week in the office: A husband-wife duo and I share a virtual group hug after two much-needed treatments for them.
This photo fills my heart This past week, I felt the deep impact of my calling as a holistic chiropractic physician in a time when it's most necessary.
*A status update on the office amidst COVID-19: My Maryland colleagues and I have been advised by the Maryland Board of Chiropractors and the Secretary of Health to remain open, but to postpone any elective care/wellness/prevention/asymptomatic treatments. We are rather encouraged to see patients in acute condition or who without treatment, his/her health would be greatly, negatively affected. Chiropractors "have a responsibility to manage the urgent needs of our patients during this crisis." This particularly means that if you or someone you know is in pain which has them considering going to urgent care/ER, come this way. We want to take the burden off of those facilities.
Therefore, we remain open to those patients! We remain open and are taking great care to screen the patients who are coming in. We are sanitizing the entire office in between every single patient and are taking all recommended precautions. We are asking that no one wait in the waiting room area, rather please wait in your car until the patient before you has exited the building. If you have a mask and gloves, please bring them to your appointment. We have seen the traffic in the office reduce significantly with the measures being taken and screenings. We feel the office is still the safe haven that we always intend it to be.*
If it occurs that we must close, we will let you all know on all platforms. Thank you, stay safe, and be well! We love you all.
A couple of weeks ago, George came in, all smiles as usual. He graciously offered to let us recap his appointment, so here it is!
George came in to see me originally with lower back pain and instability which began after a severe injury he sustained during heavy weight lifting at the gym.
With George, as with any patient, we approach his case holistically. To show you just how holistically we approach it, I will give you a rundown of what we recently worked on!
With George, I always muscle test all muscles of his lower back, and throughout his entire body, using Applied Kinesiological muscle testing. This lets me know which muscles are neurologically inhibited, read inhibited, not weak! An inhibited muscle is a muscle which is not firing correctly. Once we restore proper function to the muscle, then the real strengthening begins, such as with a PT, trainer, in the gym, etc.
We have often ID'd muscles that have been shut off due to George's original injury, compensational patterns in his body, and more recent injuries even due to repetitive stresses, posture, workouts, etc. We always work on re-facilitating these muscles and re-aligning the spinal segments related.
This past visit, we happened to find George's lat muscles weak, related to some possible blood sugar imbalance, which could be due to a number of things including diet, stress levels, aerobic and anaerobic exercises imbalances, and more. When the lats, which are related to the pancreases and blood sugar, shut off, this destabilizes the entire back, including the lower back, as the lat insert from the shoulder joint all the way into the sacrum bone (pelvis bone).
We adjusted George from head to toe, literally, from neck adjustments to toe adjustments. As I always say, everything is connected. We cannot simply adjust the hips and lower back, yet leave an extremity or a neck vertebrae etc. out of alignment. It will simply throw the entire body off again once we move and walk. My patients who are new to chiropractic are often surprised that I work on other areas of the body besides the area of complaint. When I explain how it is all connected, a light bulb goes off. This is true holistic, whole-body care!
Lastly, I have lately been running Neuro Emotional Technique on my patients at the end of each session. With Neuro-Emotional Technique, we help clear nervous-system weakening, unprocessed, and/or overwhelming emotional stressors. Our mental and emotional stresses are held as tension in the body. Our body copes with mental and emotional stress by storing it AS tension in the body. Even though George is a big, tough guy, he understands fully the importance of mind-body techniques in our sessions, and is always up for it.
A huge thanks to George for being a fully on-board patient, coming in regularly to keep himself well, and for always seeing the glass half full. I am sure he is out there today brightening peoples day!
Support yourself, support each other, and know that your chiropractor has your back (literally and figuratively). I love you all and am here for you!
Greetings to all our patients, family, and friends,
This uncertain and challenging time has prompted me to finally organize a Synergy Chiropractic email list! So first of all, welcome to the active patient email list. If you do not wish to be included in this email list, please simply respond so to this email, and we will remove you right away.
I want to first address COVID-19 as it relates to our office. Our practice currently remains open, and we are here to support you. We will be assessing the developing situation day to day and notify you via email and all other platforms (Website, Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, etc) if this changes. We are implementing all of the recommended strategies in our workspace, including performing routine deep cleanings and disinfecting, and hand sanitizing. At this time, we cannot allow any patients into the office who have exhibited any symptoms of being sick. Appointments can be rescheduled as necessary for an appropriate date in the future, and you will of course not be charged a fee for this.
This is the time where I feel like I can shine. Holistic medicine offers impactful, proactive, and preventive health care to strengthen us not just in body but in mind and being. This holds true in quieter times as well as in the toughest of circumstances. So, we will remain open until the possibility arises that we cannot.

Many of my patients have been asking me about the Coronavirus and what I do to keep myself healthy during the winter season. Here is my answer!
1. Support my immune system with high quality, health-care professional only (no over the counter or cheap brands, you get what you pay for here, invest in quality) supplements throughout the winter.
I got a picture together of many of my regular winter nutritional supplements. Pictured is NET's Flu Immune, a blend of immune supportive homeopathic remedies, Pro-Omega D, high quality fish oil with vitamin D, liquid zinc, Standard Process Inc. Thymex for thymus gland support, Immuplex as a broad-based immune support, Congaplex for acute cold and flu, Echinacea with vitamin C, and Herbal Throat Spray which delivers high potency antimicrobial herbs into the throat, Biotics Bio ADEK for vitamin D plus other fat soluble vitamins, Lauricidin, a Monolaurin supplement, and our favorite teas- Echinacea and Throat Coat. I also have my SP Complete mix smoothie in there, full of berries and greens along with the multi mineral and vitamin shake mix. On the far right of course is Kerrygold butter from grass-fed cows, chock full of vitamins and nutrients. Not pictured is my beloved bone broth which I try to drink a few days a week. And, there are SO MANY more wonderful, high quality, effective nutritional, herbal, and homeopathic supports to keep us healthy.
In the office, we can use muscle testing to determine exactly which supplements are best for your body.
Other ways I keep myself healthy during the winter?
2. Manage my stress levels
3. Get good sleep
4. Wash my hands often and use all natural disinfectants all around my office and home
5. Limit my sugar consumption. Nothing will knock your immune system down like sugar.
6. Get regular holistic chiropractic treatments (I go every 2-3 weeks for mine), massage and bodywork treatments, acupuncture, and do daily self-care
Chiropractic adjustments boost the immune system up to 200% within the first few days, and overall regular chiropractic adjustments strengthen the immune system. One of my patients most reported benefits of regular chiropractic care is decreased time sick and decreased severity when sick.
Stay calm, and continue to take care of yourself and your health. Looking forward to helping everyone achieve this in the office next week. Happy weekend!
