Ever woken up with or experienced sudden neck, back, shoulder, or other pain and had absolutely NO idea how it got there? Meet the Ileocecal Valve, the culprit in many cases of acute, non-injury pain and swelling in the body, as well as carpal tunnel, flu, headaches, constipation, diarrhea, dark underye circles, and more. The ICV is the valve connecting the large and small intestine and is located in the lower right portion of the intestines, sometimes mistaken for appendix pain. The valve can sometimes become too open, or too closed, allowing the contents of the intestines to backflow and remain stagnant (yikes). This causes toxicity throughout the body, and so- sudden pain or symptoms anywhere in the body. What causes the ICV to become too open or closed? DAPES: Diet-Go easy on popcorn (razor blades for your gut), chips, nuts, seeds, alcohol, spicy foods, chocolate, and caffeine. Allergies-including food allergens to avoid like wheat, dairy, corn, soy, sugar. Parasites-Your AK Chiro will determine if these may be a problem. Avoid raw foods like sushi. Emotions-Life stresses. Structure-You may just need an adjustment. Dr. Amanda checks for ICV dysfunction at every visit with every patient! The ICV can usually be fixed with an adjustment, massage of certain reflex points, or other therapies. Now you know a little bit more about it, how to prevent it, and why it is important to look to internal causes of external pain!
