My Venture to Artechouse, Where Art Meets Tech
I recently had the opportunity to check out one of the most innovative and cutting edge museums I have ever been to with my friend Hungry Hungry Hanley. It is called Artechouse, where art + technology meet, in Washington, DC! I was especially psyched because the current featured exhibit is called Life of a Neuron, and it's all about telling the story of life at a cellular level.
According to Artechouse, "Life of a Neuron brings artists and scientists together for a groundbreaking collaboration to explore how the brain shapes the shared human experience. Through collaboration with Society for Neuroscience and the world's leading scientists and creatives, this immersive exhibit will allow us to experience a neuron from pre-birth to death."
I am constantly explaining to my patients the positive impact that chiropractic manipulation has on the brain. Chiropractic functional neurology helps us to understand that chiropractic adjustments not only free up impingements on spinal nerves, but they also stimulate the brain in an amazing way by increasing all kinds of signaling to the brain. Often these signals are via mechanoreceptors, which relay changes in mechanics via, yes, neurons.
It was so amazing to see these neurons come to life in the massive lobby/main exhibit room. In a video that played on a loop, we got to see up-close-and-personal everything from the birth to the death of a neuron. It was like we were inside the microscope. Artechouse had an awesome bar to enjoy some neurology themed drinks at while you watched the giant display. We watched the loop probably about 7 or 8 times! It was beyond fascinating.
As always, I totally geeked out at the exhibit and left feeling very reminded that I am so passionate about what I do, and that that is an incredible thing. Thank you all!
