This past Tuesday, Tiffany, 33 weeks pregnant, came in with a baby who was in breech position, lying sideways across the womb with her buttocks closer to the pelvis than her head.
After 32 weeks, it becomes more urgent that the baby move into a head down position. Tiffany's midwife suggested a chiropractic treatment! I treated Tiffany just as I would any patient, making the appropriate adjustments and fixes that she needed. When it came time to adjust her sacrum, part of the pelvis, I followed it up with manual manipulation of the round ligament (see picture!). Her right round ligament was particularly tight. I released the ligament, which is part of the popular Webster technique, which includes sacral analysis and adjustments to help improve neuro-biomechanical function of the pelvis, and can help babies reposition to the proper place.
I am happy to report that two days later, the baby is now entirely head down. With just one treatment, the baby flipped in a matter of a couple of days. This is the power of chiropractic. Not only this, but Tiffany's amniotic fluid levels rose from 7.5 to 11, a much more favorable number.
If you know of anyone who is struggling with a baby in breech position, or any difficulties during their pregnancy, recommend a chiropractic/Applied Kinesiology treatment. This can not only help a breech baby to flip, it can ensure an easier delivery as well. Not to mention, treatment will boost the health of both mom and the baby by improving overall nervous system functioning. Thanks to Tiffany for being such an amazing patient. We look forward to meeting this little one in just a month or two!
