Everyday, I read many different holistic health care articles, but this one really caught my attention, because it's a topic that I hear many of my patients express concerns with- getting their kids to eat healthy!
The truth is, diet plays a huge, critical part in our health. You can get all of the chiropractic adjustments and take all of the supplements that you want, but without a proper diet, health issues will remain issues in some capacity.
Many conditions that children and teens suffer from, including back and neck pain, ADD/ADHD, allergies and asthma, gastrointestinal problems, colds and infections, nightmares and night terrors, and more, have a huge nutritional component. Without proper nutrition, this conditions are brought on or worsened. With the consumption of common allergenic foods, such as wheat/grains, dairy, soy, corn, and sugar, these conditions are greatly triggered and aggravated as well. I have had many patients completely transform their diet, and all of the sudden these previous conditions are more or less completely resolved.
So how do we get our kids (and us adults for that matter!) eating better? This article, written by a youth, describes multiple ways in which we can get our kids to eat healthier.

Happy Mother's Day to my mom, Janice, who is also an amazing office manager for Synergy Chiropractic!
In the past few years, as Synergy Chiropractic has taken off, my mom has gone above and beyond as office manager and secretary. Most of my patients know my mom well. She is the one at the front desk always greeting everyone with a smile, answering the phones, taking care of all the scheduling, paperwork, supplement orders, and more. She even fixes me constant snacks throughout the day to keep me fed and energized! It's so cool to be working with my mom every day. I honestly couldn't run the practice without her.
We also want to wish a Happy Mother's Day to all of our patients who are mothers or mother figures, dads who have stepped into the mother role, even those who might be mothers to some fur babies!
We look forward to seeing all of our patients back in the office this week!
One of my most common phrases in the office is "Everything is connected!" I really try to educate my patients on how every part of the body is connected to the rest. Literally, a misalignment in the lower back can cause neck pain and headaches, and vice versa, a misaligned vertebra in the neck can cause pain elsewhere in the body.
What is one of the ways in which these connections occur? The Dura Mater.
The dura mater is a membrane, that surrounds and protects the spinal cord. The dura mater attaches firmly into the base of the skull and upper three neck vertebra and then loosely down the rest of the spine until it again attaches firmly into the sacrum (pelvis) and tailbone. When one of the bones, particularly at the firm attachment sites, misaligns, it creates tension and torque on the entire spinal cord and subsequently the spine, causing other misalignments and dysfunctions elsewhere.
We call this phenomenon Dural Torque. We can check for it various ways in the office, including leg length difference, leg turn and range of motion difference tests, general muscle testing, and more.
This is why it is important to check the entire structure of the body, no matter what the patient comes into the office for. Everything is so connected, literally a problem in the neck can cause a low back problem, or a problem in the foot can cause a shoulder problem!
Thanks for reading and thanks for another great week in the office!
