Everyday, I read many different holistic health care articles, but this one really caught my attention, because it's a topic that I hear many of my patients express concerns with- getting their kids to eat healthy!

The truth is, diet plays a huge, critical part in our health. You can get all of the chiropractic adjustments and take all of the supplements that you want, but without a proper diet, health issues will remain issues in some capacity.

Many conditions that children and teens suffer from, including back and neck pain, ADD/ADHD, allergies and asthma, gastrointestinal problems, colds and infections, nightmares and night terrors, and more, have a huge nutritional component. Without proper nutrition, this conditions are brought on or worsened. With the consumption of common allergenic foods, such as wheat/grains, dairy, soy, corn, and sugar, these conditions are greatly triggered and aggravated as well. I have had many patients completely transform their diet, and all of the sudden these previous conditions are more or less completely resolved.

So how do we get our kids (and us adults for that matter!) eating better? This article, written by a youth, describes multiple ways in which we can get our kids to eat healthier.

Check it out!

This past week, I saw my patient Jamie, and we continued our treatment with some vial work (a vial is a small bottle with a liquid inside) to support her immune system in handling some low-grade, chronic infections.
Stealth (or persistent) pathogens and low-grade infections such as strep, Lyme, Epstein Barr, candida, and others are something that many people deal with. They can cause an array of health problems such as gastro-intestinal issues, fatigue, headaches, joint pain, emotional distress, and more. Many of these bugs occur naturally in the body, but can become a problem if the body cannot manage them.
One way in which we can support the immune system in handling these bugs is with vial work. Therapy vials are a common tool in holistic healthcare. These vials are imprinted with the electromagnetic signatures or fields of various substances or pathogens. When we have patients hold the vial, the body registers the electromagnetic frequency. We can then muscle test for any weakness produced by the vial. We then can administer a treatment, whether it be a chiropractic adjustment, reflex point work, meridian system work, homeopathic remedy, or other treatment while the patient holds the vial. In this way, we can aid the body in targeting and addressing whatever is affecting the body negatively/stressing the immune system.
This can be a wonderful and effective therapy when also combined with other treatment methods including chiropractic adjustments, nutritional and herbal supplements, dietary and lifestyle changes, and even prescription drugs in appropriate cases.
Thanks to my lovely patient Jamie for helping me demo this! We look forward to seeing you all in the office next week. Have a great weekend.

Happy Mother's Day to my mom, Janice, who is also an amazing office manager for Synergy Chiropractic!

In the past few years, as Synergy Chiropractic has taken off, my mom has gone above and beyond as office manager and secretary. Most of my patients know my mom well. She is the one at the front desk always greeting everyone with a smile, answering the phones, taking care of all the scheduling, paperwork, supplement orders, and more. She even fixes me constant snacks throughout the day to keep me fed and energized! It's so cool to be working with my mom every day. I honestly couldn't run the practice without her.

We also want to wish a Happy Mother's Day to all of our patients who are mothers or mother figures, dads who have stepped into the mother role, even those who might be mothers to some fur babies!

We look forward to seeing all of our patients back in the office this week!

One of my most common phrases in the office is "Everything is connected!" I really try to educate my patients on how every part of the body is connected to the rest. Literally, a misalignment in the lower back can cause neck pain and headaches, and vice versa, a misaligned vertebra in the neck can cause pain elsewhere in the body.

What is one of the ways in which these connections occur? The Dura Mater.

The dura mater is a membrane, that surrounds and protects the spinal cord. The dura mater attaches firmly into the base of the skull and upper three neck vertebra and then loosely down the rest of the spine until it again attaches firmly into the sacrum (pelvis) and tailbone. When one of the bones, particularly at the firm attachment sites, misaligns, it creates tension and torque on the entire spinal cord and subsequently the spine, causing other misalignments and dysfunctions elsewhere.

We call this phenomenon Dural Torque. We can check for it various ways in the office, including leg length difference, leg turn and range of motion difference tests, general muscle testing, and more.

This is why it is important to check the entire structure of the body, no matter what the patient comes into the office for. Everything is so connected, literally a problem in the neck can cause a low back problem, or a problem in the foot can cause a shoulder problem!

Thanks for reading and thanks for another great week in the office!

This past weekend, I attended a Standard Process, Inc seminar called The Fire Within with Dr. Barris Burgoyne all about inflammation and how it can be both a friend and a foe.
Inflammation is a word we hear thrown around a lot these days in the health care world. Inflammation is actually a necessary immune response that enables us to survive infection and injury as well to maintain all of our tissue health by aiding in breaking down of old tissue and rebuilding of new. Inflammation also aids us in eliminating foreign particles and toxins, and handling stress.
The problem is, it is more difficult to turn inflammation off than it is to turn inflammation on. When inflammation persists past the stage in which it should resolve, health problems begin to occur. Chronic inflammation is associated with an extensive list of diseases, as well as chronic pain and musculoskeletal issues.
This past weekend, we delved into the ways in which we can help our patients to get chronic inflammation under control. We learned about a host of nutritional and herbal supplements to help with gastrointestinal inflammation, musculoskeletal inflammation, chronic infections and stealth (persistent) pathogens, and more.
Holistic chiropractic kinesiology treatments also help the body in dealing with inflammation. In recent studies done in Canada, chiropractic adjustments were shown to reduce the production of at least two specific inflammatory proteins. Chiropractic also positively influences the nervous system, which modulates much of the body's immune system. Chiropractic treatments also promote fluid movement and waste drainage throughout the body, helping to eliminate inflammation debris. And this is just the beginning of how we help with inflammation here in the office!
