Need a little pick me up heading into the weekend?

In the years that I have been seeing patients at my practice, I have discovered something interesting. Patients may initially come in for various injuries, aches or pains, or internal health issues, but one thing they come to realize with their chiropractic treatments is that it helps their overall feeling of happiness and well-being, and helps to manage and lower stress levels.

Chiropractic adjustments are one of the best ways to elevate your mood, for a number of important and great reasons.

Chiropractic adjustments stimulate the parasympathetic nervous system, or the "rest and digest" side of the nervous system. This results in an instant calming of the body right after an adjustment- calming of the nervous system, calming of the mind, and calming of the muscles.

Chiropractic adjustments are also one of the few truly natural ways to release the body's endorphin stores. Immediately after receiving an adjustment, the the central nervous system and pituitary gland release endorphins that inhibit pain signals and produce a feeling of euphoria.

Chiropractic adjustments also help to naturally balance the body's chemistry, resulting in alleviation of depression, anxiety, or other moods that can result from chemical imbalances in our system.

If you're feeling sad, lethargic, anxious, down, or just plain blah, or have struggled with more serious mood disorders, consider holistic chiropractic care to support not only optimal health, but optimal happiness!

Happy Easter and Passover to all of our dear patients, family, and friends!

This past week we had a few of our furry friends visit the office as well. We welcome all creatures great and small into our office! These guys, Squeaker and Cooper, are now both on great Standard Process products from the SP veterinary supplement line to support their particular health challenges and needs. I am glad to be able to see all sorts of patients and help so many through holistic medicine!

Have a wonderful holiday weekend. We will see you all back in the office on Tuesday, April 18th after we observe the Easter Monday holiday.

One major component of any health issue is chronic stress. Many of my patients are very aware that their health issues, whether it neck or back pain, headaches, insomnia, etc. worsen when they are under increased levels of stress.

How exactly does stress contribute to health problems such as joint pain? When we are under stress, our body release the stress hormone cortisol. Excess cortisol must be detoxified through the body in a process that uses up a lot of sulfates, exactly the substance we need to repair our joint tissues. Cortisol also suppresses the immune system, causing decreased repair of joints, and also susceptibility to infections in the body. Increased cortisol also causes high blood sugar levels and an inability to regulate blood sugar levels. Increased cortisol can also lead to weight gain, depression/mood problems, and hormonal imbalances.

I love this infographic of a few great ways to manage stress levels in your life. I myself am working on implementing a few of these myself!

I also try to address both the sources and affects of stress in the body with each of my patients at each visit. I work mind-body techniques in to help in processing certain mental/emotional stressors which may be contributing to stress. I also work on the adrenal glands often, the organs that are responsible for releasing cortisol in the body. I use a number of other techniques as well to help in reducing the affects of stress on the body.

Join me in working on reducing the stresses we place on our bodies every day! What a great step towards healing and whole health.

Here's some great new, accurate research to celebrate this Friday!

Chiropractic adjustments do NOT alone cause strokes. Strokes are caused by a combination of factors. The occurrence of a stroke is something that takes years to develop and the conditions must be there- peripheral artery disease, artery damage and inflammation, high blood pressure, etc. A good physician knows how to screen for possible signs of a stroke or impending stroke, and modifies his treatments based on these signs. By the way, a person is statistically more likely to be struck by lightening twice in their lifetime than suffer a stroke after an adjustment, or 1 in 1 million.

Let's look at conventional medicine. Never ignoring that conventional medicine has a time and a place, and that our emergency medical system is one of the best in the world, still, the conventional medical system itself is statistically far more dangerous than chiropractic treatment. Conventional medical care is now the 3rd leading cause of death in our country according to some sources. Our current estimated number of yearly total deaths due to medical errors is 502,000. The number of yearly non-error medical deaths in our country is 212,000 per year. This totals 714,000 deaths annually.

Chiropractic is on the whole extremely safe and offers alternatives to drugs and surgery, which have possibly harmful side effects, while also promoting preventative healthcare to avoid disease and poor health conditions such as stroke and heart disease, etc.
